Norse Tales Oct 05 2008 7:06pm Submitted By: Parrot Category: Fun Type: Website Today I want to bring to your attention a nifty website that really showcases the possibilities of the Internet: LibriVox.org They record audio books from works in the public domain. And the thing is, they'll let just any old dumbass volunteer to record chapters to books. So check it out, I volunteered to record a couple of tales from a book of Norse tales: The Tale Of Hacon Grizzlebeard The Tale Of Gudbrand On The Hillside So, if you've ever had the urge to listen to yours truly make an immense fool of himself... VOILA! Your wish has been granted! I would like to share with you why I chose these two tales to record: Hacon Grizzlebeard This is a very sordid tale. As it happens, that's my favourite kind! A bratty, not to bright princess meets a sly prince who's good at disguises. Scandal, crime, adventure, horse mutilations, and a rather unique method of convincing a girl to sleep with you. All this in 15 minutes! What's not to like? Plus, it contains the word "Hussey". People should use that word more often. (link to the text, if you don't want to hear my interpretation) Gudbrand On The Hillside There's not really much to this tale. But I found it worthwhile anyway for a couple of reasons. First, it contains the following quote: "T'is always better to save one's life than to have a cock." Second, it makes clear that there's a scale of progression in terms of livestock, and where the animals rank in the scale from bottom to top. Apparently, it goes as follows: Cow < Horse < Pig < Goat < Sheep < Goose < Cock That's right! The Cock is king! All Hail The Cock!! (link to the text) I hope you enjoy it. Please feel free to let me know if you do. Or if you think I did a terrible job, let me know that too :) Be Nifty! Comments:
